Version 2002 Updates
Adding ClipArt

Accessing the clipart can happen two different ways in version 2002. Each way gives the same results but it can be confusing when you first try it. One method is to select a slide layout with the “Click to add Clipart” icon on the page. The icon for this now includes options to add not just clipart, but also tables, charts, pictures, diagrams or organizational charts, and media clips. It looks like this:

When you click on the Clipart picture, the Select Picture dialog box appears.

This dialog box may take some time to open up as it needs to load upall the clipart that has been sorted in the Clips Organizer program (refer to brief description below and check the help menu to learn more about this feature). Once the images actually appear, you can simply pick the image you want, double click on it and it should appear on your page in place of the Graphic Icon. You can also type in a word to do a search of all the images you have rather than scrolling through them all to find the one you want.

Second Method for Accessing Clipart
The other method to access the clipart can be done by choosing Insert- Picture - Clipart from the menu command bar or clicking on the Clipart guy in the Drawing toolbar. This opens up the Clip Art Task pane on the right side of the screen.

Type a word in the box below Search for: and images matching that search will appear. You can also narrow the search more by choosing specifically a place to search in the Search in: and the Results should be: boxes.

To maintain an image’s original proportions as you resize it, select the image, hold the shift key down while dragging a corner selection handle.

Clip Organizer
The Clip Organizer (link at the bottom of the Insert Clip Art Pane) is a catalog of available images in MS Office XP and is a separate application. When you first open Clip Organizer, it will automatically compile files on your whole computer or just selected files if you select them first. This will take awhile to do. I suggest you select the file folders with the images you want organized in the Clip Organizer before you run it as most files on your computer do not need to be included in this. Click Options to open the Auto Import Settings dialog box which is where you can specify which folders to search.

If you want to add clips to the Clip Organizer, in the Clip Organizer application, choose File - Add Clips to Organizer. Choose Automatically to have the Clip Organizer look for media files in designated folders or Choose On My Own to add your files manually from selected folders.

Clip Art on the Web
At the bottom of the Clip Art Task Pane is a link to Clips Online. Clicking on this (assuming you are connected to the internet) will open up a browser and open up Microsoft’s Design Gallery Online which contains thousands of images that you can use free of charge. In the Search for field, type the words that you want to search for. Click Go. The Design Gallery Live window will display pictures that match your specifications. If you find an image you want to download, click the download icon under the image. The image will now be added to the Clip Organizer on your harddrive.
